What are the benefits of a low moisture content?
The seasoning process is carried out in order to reduce the amount of water that is found inside the wood. Ideally, this moisture content should be around 20% in order to burn an efficient and high-quality fire, however alternative seasoning methods like drying the wood in a kiln can reduce this moisture content down to 15%! It is important to ensure that logs are adequately seasoned before use as excess water will cause the fuel to burn ineffectively, producing a fire that doesn’t last as long and doesn’t reach high enough temperatures.
